HENCE provides practical cross-cultural transition training.
Empowerment through Capability, Not Dependence
Studying abroad is far more than an academic pursuit; it is a complex cross-cultural transition. Every year, thousands of international students arrive at UK universities and schools with immense potential, yet many struggle to navigate the implicit cultural norms of British higher education and daily life.
From deciphering academic feedback (“You might want to do wider reading”) to managing shared accommodation dynamics or knowing when and how to access institutional support, unwritten rules can create friction. Unaddressed, these minor misunderstandings often compound into acute isolation, academic underperformance, and sudden pressure on university and school Wellbeing and Safeguarding services.
HENCE Intercultural Education bridges this gap. We partner with UK universities and schools to deliver structured, preventative transition education that equips international students, their families, and frontline university staff with the capabilities needed to thrive.
Better Understanding. Better Support. Better Student Experience.

International students bring ambition, ability and a wealth of experience to UK education. Yet even highly capable students can find the transition challenging: the way lessons are taught, how teachers communicate, expectations around independence, friendships, wellbeing and the relationship between home and school can all feel unfamiliar.
Our mission is to help schools, universities and families understand those differences and respond to them well. We combine educational expertise, cultural understanding and practical student support so that international students are not simply enrolled in UK education, but are able to participate fully, develop confidence and make the most of the opportunities around them.
Every student is different. Culture can help us understand context, but it should never become a label. Our work is personal, practical and collaborative, designed around the needs of the student and the education setting around them.
For institutions, that means stronger international student provision and better engagement with families. For parents, it means greater clarity and reassurance. For students, it means the confidence and skills to thrive with increasing independence.
